Best Approach

I am new to FlexViewer Development. Just wondering what the best approach is to displaying a datagrid control as a result of a search. Should I put the datagrid inside of a widget? Is it possible to trigger another widget (from code) from inside of a widget? The serach results will be coming from an external web service.

Sorry if this is something simple, just want to get idea of the best way to do it.
